News: Uptown Festival

by Adam Aiken

There’s been a last-minute blow to fans heading to today’s Uptown Festival with news that headliners UB40 have pulled out.

The unwelcome development came after lead singer Ali Campbell went down with “severe sickness”.

The news emerged after gates for the all-day event in Earlham Park, Norwich, had already opened, with organisers of the festival not informed about it until 1.30pm.

On social media, the band said: “We are sorry to announce that UB40 featuring Ali Campbell will be unable to perform today in Norwich.

“Ali was this morning unexpectedly taken ill and as a result cannot travel to a show he was so looking forward to perform at.”

The event is ongoing, and organisers said in a statement: “Whilst we are of course disappointed that one of the acts on today’s bill was unable to perform due to unforeseen illness, we are proud of the great event we have worked hard to produce today, with lots to do for all ages and a stellar music line-up.

“Uptown is a one-day festival and not a ‘headliner with support’ show. There are plenty of other brilliant bands, DJs and happenings to see today, with fun-packed activities for children to enjoy, too.”
